Getting Fit before Going Ski Touring Betters Results and Helps Prevent Falls

Yearly it is the unvaried account. Despite cycling to the office, and an irregular hike, every ski season kicks off on those painful first few hikes when one is left behind in the wake of more virile and fitter skiing chums.

If you’re not match fit whilst ski touring it’s beastly, and could be very serious. Skiing down you need to have some extra reserves. If you are a tired skier you are likely to have injuries and fatigue can be a contributing factor to incidents, for example falls and crevasse falls.

Surely there’s a better way to commence the season, and a newly released 309 page report by Anita Simonds, who previously wrote Chamonix Travel, looks to offer a solution. Whilst aimed at climbers the report is mostly applicable to touring, with its arduous scrambles as well as different games.

Cycling, practicing for peak results is highly detailed and easily read. It’s a fine comprehensive manual which puts together some poignant research. One may evolve a particular exercise regime or improve your current programme. Granted that it is mainly for climbers, so much of the techniques could be unsuitable for ski touring, it is certainly a guide to acquire if you prefer to do a few of the long 24 hour or multi day classic alpine routes.
